Dominican Republic Honeymoon Itinerary

The Dominican Republic is a paradise for honeymooners. Whenever I get a new client asking about a beach honeymoon, I immediately put it at the top of my list. It offers them plenty of honeymoon choices like national parks, waterfalls, and 1,000 miles of stunning coastline. With its great weather, diverse activities, and luxurious resorts, you’ll have plenty to enjoy. Here’s a perfect itinerary for a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic that balances relaxation, adventure, and romance.

Day 1: Arrive and Get The Most Out of Your All-Inclusive Resort

Catch an early flight to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). One of the reasons why I recommend it is because of the direct flight options from most major airports. Make sure you arrange for transportation ahead of time, as the airport can be filled with what we call “airport pirates.”

The Dominican Republic has so many resorts to choose from, but we will always recommend an adults-only resort all-inclusive for your honeymoon. Punta Cana has the most options, but it can be busy and touristy. We prefer Cap Cana (nearby) which is a little more private. Spend the afternoon exploring the resort and settling into your accommodations. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of the resort’s restaurants and unwind with a cocktail as you soak in the first night of your honeymoon.

Day 2: Tour Santo Domingo

After an early breakfast at the resort, head off for a day trip to Santo Domingo, the country’s vibrant capital. Explore the historic sites, including the first cathedral and customs house, and walk down the first paved road in the Americas. If you like history, you’ll be happy to see where the “new world” began with Christopher Columbus.

Make sure you stop and try some street food (we recommend a chicharron and a Presidente beer). Return to the resort in the late afternoon for some pool time before dinner and evening entertainment. Some resorts have casinos or nightclubs for you to really have fun!

Is the Dominican Republic a good honeymoon location?

Absolutely! The Dominican Republic is an outstanding honeymoon destination! It combines breathtaking natural beauty, luxurious accommodations, and rich cultural experiences. You can lounge in a private cabana, explore vibrant Santo Domingo, jump off waterfalls, or snorkel among coral reefs. The hospitality is exceptional, with resorts offering special honeymoon packages. The culinary scene is diverse, featuring fresh seafood and traditional Dominican dishes. So, yes it’s an ideal choice for an unforgettable start to your married life.

Beach Relaxation on Day 3

Plan for a leisurely morning with a relaxed sit-down breakfast. Then, spend the remainder of the day lounging in a cabana on the beach with butler service, enjoying the sun and the sound of the waves. Some of our favorite resorts have butler service included in the honeymoon package! In the evening, after dinner, catch some of the resort’s entertainment and dance the night away.

Dominican Republic Honeymoon Bonus

A new trend I’m seeing with my clients is hiring a photographer or a content creator on your honeymoon tour. You hire one for one day and allow them to film you or photograph you with the gorgeous tropical backdrop celebrating your marriage! Isn’t this an amazing addition to the wedding photos?

Day 4: Day Trip to Damajagua Falls

Grab your breakfast to-go and set off early for a day trip to Puerto Plata to experience Damajagua Falls, also known as the 27 waterfalls. Spend the day jumping and sliding off the falls, relaxing in the natural pools, and soaking up the adventurous spirit. After returning to the resort, spend some time relaxing by the pool, visiting the spa, or enjoying some daytime entertainment. Grab an early dinner because tomorrow you’ll have another early start.

Is it safe to go to an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic?

Yes, it is safe to go to an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. These resorts prioritize guest safety and comfort, featuring secure environments, on-site medical staff, and comprehensive safety protocols. Staff are well-trained to handle any issues, ensuring that you can relax and enjoy your honeymoon without concerns.

For added peace of mind, work with a travel advisor. They provide personalized service and are available to assist if any issues arise. Booking with an online booking agent or a big box store can risk ending up at less reputable places. A travel advisor ensures you choose a trusted and high-quality resort, making your honeymoon stress-free and memorable.

Day 5: Diving and Snorkeling Excursions

After an early breakfast, embark on a diving adventure in the calm waters near Saona and Catalina islands. Explore colorful marine life, shipwrecks, and coral reefs. For a milder experience, try for a snorkeling excursion to the same reefs. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at your resort before heading to a late dinner. If you’re feeling up for it, grab a late-night cocktail at one of the many lounges.

Day 6: Golfing and Beach Time

Start the day with breakfast and then head to one of the top-rated golf courses in Punta Cana. Choose from about 10 courses available, suitable for both experienced golfers and beginners. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon on the beach with butler service. Dinner and entertainment at the resort will round off your day.

Day 7: Boo…Time To Go Home

Have a relaxed breakfast before heading to the airport for your flight home. Make sure you leave plenty of time for traffic, baggage check, and security lines.

But…if you want to extend your trip (which I’m here for) try some more tours and exursions! We have some fun recommendations here.
